Coloured Dreaming is the motto of Roland Hanak’s recent painting and show. He uses traditional egg tempera and acrylic on canvas to create worlds that challenge the viewer’s imagination in relation to architecture and nature. He evokes colourful dreams and spaces that defy conventional art discourse. In awareness of the threats nature and humanity is facing, the metamorphosis is colours is a praise the power of nature’s products and gifts.
What makes this painting special is the moment, the unpredictable, the unplanned that flashes up. The colourfulness of the work provokes the curiosity of the viewer. Positions beyond language and thus beyond what can be said push their way into conventions of perception. This creates the freedom that painting can always create: The presence of dreaming, imagination and magic.
Roland Hanak on his painting: “Painting creates images that are more reliable than many other images of everyday life. The competition with electronic images should always be decided in favour of painting. In painting itself, the decisive factor is a successful mixture of construction and deconstruction, i.e. creation and erasure in a relatively balanced ratio. There are no certainties in the creative process; that is the risk. Seemingly successful solutions must be further dissolved. A result emerges from a kind of limbo that is captured at the right moment.”
