In the exhibition “Wash & Go”, works from the two most recent series “Wash & Go” and “Afterparty” by the Vienna-based artist Maximilian Otte are presented. The artist transports viewers into the world of an endless party of the rich and beautiful, a realm of glamour and glitz, captured in acrylic on molino.
Pop icons such as Madonna or Britney Spears, self-staged art figures like Pamela Anderson, or fashion role models such as Sarah Jessica Parker and her Sex and the City colleagues appear as protagonists of his imagination, moving in a naively perfect world as the ideal figures of our time. The striking perfection of this stage-like world, in which everything seems to be made of plastic, and the artificial self-staging of its figures create a parallel universe with an unreal, comic-like atmosphere.
The series “Wash & Go” focuses on beauty hype and ideals of attractiveness, playfully looking from the hair salon to the make-up mirror to blow-dried hairstyles, while “Afterparty” grants glimpses into moments after the endless party—always reflecting on the mass phenomenon of stardom.
