This exhibition brings together four visionary Armenian artists—Vahan Roumelian, Moko Khachatryan, Hakob Vardanyan, and Guy Ghazanchyan—whose practices reflect a dynamic spectrum of contemporary abstraction, gestural experimentation, and sculptural innovation. Rooted in Armenian heritage yet profoundly shaped by global dialogues, their work offers a rich tapestry of memory, emotion, and form.

Vahan Roumelian (b. 1963, Yerevan) emerged during the late Soviet era as a defining voice of Armenia’s avant-garde. A member of the underground collective The Third Floor, Roumelian helped challenge the boundaries of post-Soviet artistic language. His transnational journey—spanning residencies in Paris, the UK, France, and Moscow—catalyzed a lifelong engagement with abstraction, marked by raw textures, spiritual undertones, and philosophical inquiry. His work has been exhibited internationally since the 1980s, including at the Grand Palais in Paris, the Bochum Museum in Germany, and the Castel Sant’Angelo in Rome.

Moko Khachatryan (b. 1967, Yerevan) creates paintings that navigate abstraction with emotive lyricism and formal precision. A prodigy of the Armenian art world and daughter of the renowned painter Roudolf Khachatryan, she trained under Henrik Igityan and honed her voice at major Armenian art institutions. Her vivid compositions, often exhibited at the Louvre’s Carrousel, the Cafesjian Center for the Arts, and World Art Dubai, probe the emotional memory of color and shape, balancing intuitive gestures with architectural clarity.

Hakob Vardanyan (b. 1989, Yerevan) represents a new generation of Armenian sculptors whose work blends traditional techniques with contemporary vision. A graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts of Armenia and a Ph.D. candidate in Art History, Vardanyan integrates bronze, glass, and visual elements to produce sculptures that are at once modern and materially rich. He is a decorated artist, honored with Armenia’s Ministry of Culture gold medal, and his works have been exhibited across Europe and the Middle East.

Guy Ghazanchyan (b. 1991, Yerevan) fuses Armenia’s cultural legacy with a refined, modern aesthetic. With academic roots at the Yerevan State Academy of Fine Arts and international experience at the Cité des Arts in Paris, Ghazanchyan’s work interrogates themes of identity and memory through painting and sculpture. Celebrated for his subtle yet impactful style, he has received prestigious awards including the Armenian Presidential Prize and has exhibited widely both at home and abroad.

Together, these four artists form a compelling chorus of voices, weaving a story of resilience, exploration, and transcendence through the elemental languages of color and shape. A Story of Colors and Shapes from Distant Lands is both a tribute to Armenian creativity and a meditation on the universal power of abstraction to connect across cultures and time.
