Hélène Lindqvist has never followed a conventional route. With Swedish and Egyptian roots, and a childhood split between Stockholm and Los Angeles, she grew up between languages, cultures, and artistic worlds. Early on, she studied Italian language and culture in Stockholm, which led her to the operatic stages of Salzburg and Saarbrücken—not just to perform, but to inhabit stories with her whole being.

For over 20 years, she worked as a professional opera singer, performing leading roles like Aida, Traviata, and Brünnhilde in city and state theatres across Germany and internationally. She became known not just for the classics, but for taking on new and experimental works—premieres where the ink was still drying, and the rules hadn’t been written yet.

In 2011, she co-founded The Art Song Project, an online platform breathing life into forgotten composers and their songs, pairing each recording with carefully chosen artwork to match the music’s tone and texture.

Today, Hélène’s focus has shifted toward the visual arts. From her studio in Augsburg, she creates bold, colorful snapshots of imagined realities—works that blend emotion, memory, and dream logic into sculptural and painterly forms. Her current practice includes mixed-media collages, surreal figurines, and vibrant compositions that feel like stills from alternate worlds. There’s a sense of play, but also precision—a deep attention to form shaped by her years on stage.

“My work is driven by a fascination with the intricacies of human emotion, curiosity, and behavior. Through large-scale acrylic paintings, I explore these themes in a style that blends the expressive depth of the Blaue Reiter movement with the bold colors and graphic punch of Pop Art—plus a touch of Old Hollywood drama.

Bold, vibrant colors and dynamic shapes reflect the intensity of the emotions I investigate. I aim to draw the viewer into a heightened emotional space—one that feels both theatrical and deeply human. I’m particularly interested in how we respond to emotional states and how those responses show up in our bodies: a glance, a pose, a gesture that says too much or not enough. My paintings are snapshots of those moments — strange, charged, and alive.”
