Christine Brey is a visual artist based in Hamburg whose work spans drawing, installation, and object art. She studied Design in Würzburg and earned her Master’s degree in Fine Arts in Hamburg. Brey’s artistic practice explores the dynamics between the individual and the collective, human relationships, and fundamental questions of existence—origin, purpose, and the connection between body, mind, and nature.
Her graphite drawings and installations convey poetic tension between beauty and unease, marked by psychological depth and Old Master–like craftsmanship. Through subtle ambivalence and reduction to light and shadow, Brey’s works evoke silence, melancholy, and introspection.
In addition to her artistic work, she teaches and mediates art at the Hamburger Kunsthalle and the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, and also curates exhibitions. Her works are represented in public collections and have been shown nationally and internationally. Brey has received several awards and grants, including the Jung und Gegenständlich Prize of Galerie Bodenseekreis, the Kunst in der Börse Award, and support from the Hamburg Kreativgesellschaft, the Café Royal Kulturstiftung, and the City of Hamburg.
