Bea Deusch was born 1958 in Vienna as the first of three children. Her mother was a seamstress, and her father was also artistically active.
She says of herself: “There was never a moment when I started painting; it has always been there.”
As a child, she painted the paths of her grandparents’ garden, the face of her brother, the car of a teacher, and her hands and feet. Art was always connected with her father. At the age of ten, she visited the Schönbrunn Palace Gardens, where they would draw trees and paths together.
Initially, she trained as a hairdresser and then worked as a make-up artist at various theaters in Vienna. During her time raising children, she developed her own artistic expression in broad strokes.
In 1992, she attended several semesters at the Lazarettgasse Art School. There, she met Professor Roman Haller, and in his studio, she found the style she has today. She regularly presents her works to the public.
Since 2023, she has been a full member of the professional association “Bildende Künstler Österreichs” (Visual Artists of Austria).
Bea Deusch’s works are strongly influenced by the Vienna School of Fantastic Realism. However, she also sees herself as belonging to Surrealism and Symbolism.
Her detailed motifs appear to float freely in space and engage the viewer directly. From time to time, the artist incorporates newspaper clippings or telephone book pages, gluing them onto the canvas. This is where graphic lines and shapes reappear in her images. The backgrounds are typically subtle, using dark and matte colors.
Every detail is information. Soap bubbles represent dreams and desires, a precisely cut tree at the edge of the image suggests a rational worldview, or red high heels hint at the dictates of fashion and beauty.
The artist engages deeply with her environment, societal order, and interpersonal relationships. She opens critique and encourages reflection.
