Angelika Poels is a contemporary artist living and working in the Netherlands (Deurne). She was born in 1970 in Horst (NL). Angelika completed her Propedeuse at the Art School in Tilburg when she was 21. In 2016 she successfully graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgium. After that she started her career as a professional artist working in multiple disciplines and techniques.

In her work, Angelika explores the tension and interaction between inner experience and physical form, with notions of depth and spatiality playing a central role. Her artworks embody thoughts that stem from a personal fascination with themes such as the world around us, the universe, and the daily life. These thoughts emerge from within, grow in her mind, and gradually take on their own dynamic and life. From this evolving mental space, her ideas arise, which, as visual concepts, find their way onto the canvas or into sculptural form.

Through layers of materials, colors, and textures, Angelika creates depth within her work. Each piece evolves through a process in which shapes and ideas intertwine and unfold into one another. The space she generates in her work is not a defined physical space but an invitation to enter the boundlessness of thoughts and possibilities. This approach results in a layered experience for the viewer, who is invited to navigate between the layers and discover something personal within.

Angelika’s studio functions as an extension of this internal process. Here, initial, often fleeting thoughts are concretized into tangible images as she experiments with contrasts and spatiality to create depth and movement. This method grants her ideas a certain freedom.

The viewer can approach the artworks from different angles and in various ways, depending on their perspective and interpretation.

The subjects she touches upon are both universal and intimate, and each piece carries its own layer of meaning that goes beyond the surface. Her intention is that these pieces, through their layering and spatial effect, not only challenge the viewer to visually dive into the work but also to mentally and emotionally relate to the world within it. Each artwork thus becomes a catalyst for a moment of reflection—a quiet dialogue with the invisible that lies beyond our perception.
